Welcome

Welcome to The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh.

In 2035 we will celebrate our 300th Anniversary; the first club in the world to do so.

Whilst golf in some form has been played from a much earlier time; it is in the first half of the eighteenth century  that the first ‘golfing societies’ were formed. The Royal Burgess is recognised as the oldest of these (1735) and after its earliest homes at Bruntsfield links in Edinburgh and old Musselburgh, it is now based at Barnton on the west of Edinburgh.

Located less than 5 miles from both the city centre & Edinburgh Airport, the golf course, designed originally by the legendary Willie Park Jr, is undoubtedly one of the very best parkland courses in Scotland. The greenkeeping, all round presentation of the course and surrounding grounds are of the highest standard.

The clubhouse is arguably one of the grandest in the world of golf and displays some of the most fascinating and historic golfing artefacts and trophies. It’s also the perfect place to unwind while sipping a contemplative drink or settling down to a delicious meal in our spectacular dining room.

Whether you are a member, guest or visitor, our superb team will be here to provide a friendly welcome and professional service.

Please enjoy the Royal Burgess.
